we need a beat

Killerddc responds:

That's right!

(note that i do not use logic pro so i cannot offer specific advice):

the drums throughout the entire song are weak, less so at the start but could be increased

the lead which comes in at 1:13 is incredibly harsh and louder than every other instrument in the song and doesn't really fit the mood that the song is going for

also at 1:13, the pad creates a very loud plucking sound which again is louder than every other instrument currently playing

at 1:51, the color bass??? sound is so loud that it peaks and is again quite ear piercing and harsh

at the first drop, the drums are pretty much completely inaudible and the kick is incredibly weak. as well as this, the dubstep basses are, to be blunt, not mixed very well. some are quieter than others, and the color bass sound is still harsh and overpowers everything else. for me, i find that dubstep sounds should flow into each other well and not be a complete contrast to the sound before it. in this song, it sounds like you have thrown random sounds at each other and hoped that they work.

at 3:00, i immediately noticed an issue with the waveform. if you look at it in the newgrounds player, you will see that the waveform is offset upwards. this is incredibly bad and can cause a multitude of issues with your song, although in this case it is only slight. i'd reccomend looking up dc offset, and seeing how you can remove it

the low bass notes in this part are louder than everything else in this section

the rest of the song pretty much just has the same issues that i have already said

i think you have a long way to go and many more things to improve. i'd reccomend genuinely just listening to songs that you like and try your best to learn how they work and what they use to make the sounds they make and recreate them. you'll learn alot about everything to do with producing that way. watching youtube tutorials to find out how to make the certain sounds you want will also benefit you greatly in the sound design department and learning how to maximize the use of the tools that logic pro has to offer will help too. one thing that i cannot stress enough is that you do not rush yourself with music. three songs a year is genuinely alot for some people, i tend to release music whenever i have a really good idea i want to release which is probably about every 5 months or so at this point. one thing that i cant really help you with is theory, i know practically nothing about theory and to be frank dont even know what lydian means so i cant really say much about that

i think for now, just listen to way more music that you want to make. i wouldn't say copy it but, being heavily inspired by a producer is not a bad thing in the slightest, if you know how to make music in the style of many different producers then you're bound to create your own style out of them

anyway have a time

SolveForX314 responds:

Thanks for the feedback! I've been told by someone else that I could have done the volume better, so I'll definitely make sure it's better balanced in the future.

As for your other suggestion on trying to mimic other producers, I think I might try that! I've tried starting a new song lately, but I found it really hard to come up with a good melody; maybe making music based on the stuff I already like will help me get more of a feeling for what sounds right.

this was awesome the sound design is awesome you are awesome at sound design

Njol responds:

thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

with better mixing and mastering this could be pretty good. the lows are lacking in most of the song and i think the whole song is kinda quiet and could be made a bit louder. i do really like the melodies and the chord progression though, do you upload your music anywhere else?

zLondon responds:

thankyou for actually giving advice instead of trashing the song, appreciate.

it was a banger at the start but then the second half ruined it ngl

Mathigo responds:

ok thanks for the advice! ill make sure that my next song Will be better lol

Midoriirii responds:

kek

damn this is fire

Robo2k responds:

yoo thanks g

one criticism that i have is that i think the sidechain is a little too much, i think it would sound better if the sidechain was more subtle but apart from that this is fire

LVert888 responds:

Thanks for the feedback, i'm gonna try using some softer Sidechain for synthwave from now on

WOOOO YEAH

TurbonicZ responds:
